What to expect in Ryobi’s table saw?

According to Aaron Barnett of BangingToolbox: The best Ryobi table saw is a bit of a dinosaur and hard to get hold of second hand now. The new Ryobi table saws are incredibly cheap to buy, and this is the reason many DIY’ers use a Ryobi 10 inch table saw for trimming work around the house.

A saw small table saw is still much faster and more accurate for ripping timber for finishing and trim work like skirtings and archives. Compared to using only a compact Makita skill saw.

Is it worth getting a rolling stand?

If you plan on using your table saw a lot, getting a rolling stand is definitely a first class idea from a movability and convenience standpoint.

Apart from providing a secure and stable platform for your saw, a rolling stand will make it easy for you to move the entire contraption from one area of the room to another.

Even if you keep your table saw in the same spot all the time, having a rolling stand will allow you to position the table as needed for cutting.

15 vs. 13 amp motor

When comparing table saws, the choice often comes down to a 13-amp or a 15-amp motor.

The main benefit of a 13-amp model is its portability. Because of its compact form factor, 13-amp saws are perfectly suited for finishing jobs that require only a small tool.

That being said, you will require more power for jobs other than trimming. This is why 15-amp saw comes in handy.

A 15-amp saw is powerful enough for most DIY and home jobs but remains within the load-bearing limit of typical household electrical circuits.

What about the long-standing Ryobi BT3000 table saw

The Ryobi BT3000 table saw is a certified classic among woodworkers of all skill levels. Although the company has produced several models since the BT3000 was discontinued, it is still one of the most highly-regarded table saws ever made according to many Ryobi table saws reviews.

Part of the reason for the BT3000’s popularity is its power and accuracy. Although it isn’t the best choice for finished cabinetry, it is great at making crosscuts and ripping 2 x 4s.

It is also fairly compact and lightweight, so you can easily take it to remote job sites.

The BT3000 also has an effective dust collection system, excellent blade guards, and a convenient on/off button.

Even today, the Ryobi BT3000 table saw is still a reliable and sought-after model with a devoted following, even though it’s a bit of a “dinosaur”.

Can I buy replaceable Ryobi table saw parts?

Table saws are subjected to considerable wear-and-tear, which means that parts can break down and malfunction with heavy use.

Depending on how much abuse your saw receives, you could be looking at making repairs in the future.

It would be a first class idea to have some Ryobi table saw parts handy at all times.

Apart from the blades, you could expect to change out the following parts on a fairly regular basis:

  • Blade guard. This is the plastic cover that prevents your hand from coming in contact with the blade.
  • Carbon motor brushes. These brushes transfer power to the motor’s armature.
  • Drive motor. This rotates the arbor shaft, which in turn spins the blade.
  • Replacement switch assembly. This houses the saw’s on/off switch.

Are table saws dangerous?

Unfortunately, table saws are some of the most dangerous power tools around. The risk of injury [1] to users comes mainly from “kickback”.

This is when the workpiece snaps back from the blade and is launched toward the user at high velocity.

The workpiece could then hit the user in the face or the chest. In some cases, kickback may cause the user’s hand to come in contact with the blade, causing a severe cut or laceration.

The best table saw comes with flesh-detecting technology that reduces the risk associated with kickback.

These saws have an electric charge that trips the safety system when the blade comes into contact with human skin.

With a saw equipped with skin-sensing technology, you could significantly reduce the risk of injury resulting from kickback.

Should I get a Ryobi table saw?

Ryobi portable table saws may or may not be the right choice for you depending on the type of work you do and what kind of performance you expect.

On the one hand, Ryobi saws are strictly DIY tools and not pro-level models, by any means.

On the other hand, Ryobi table saws are some of the more capable and reliable DIY-grade options available.

If you need quick-and-dirty tools for occasional ripping and cutting, Ryobi saws are a very affordable option.

If you need consistently superior quality performance, however, I suggest saving up for a professional table.
