Builders, tradies, and DIY’ers always need a hot or cold beverage to keep us going when we are busy. However, sometimes we turn to unhealthy drinks instead of making something better ourselves.
If we can make something better than what we buy from the shop when it comes to a table, we can do the same when it comes down to our daily and hourly sip!
You don’t have to be a granny and drink hot teas to be healthy. You can make iced teas. They are tasty, cold, and refreshing.
Did you know that there are better tasting, healthier, and almost free alternatives to what comes from the factory when it comes to your heat-induced drinking needs?
That can keep you quenched during a hot day in the sun and save you a bit of fuel and time from driving to the nearest bakery.
There are no excuses to keeping healthy while on a building site after you read this . What you do need, though, is a Freezer and and a kettle on the job site or in your workshop.
How to add great sugar-free flavor to cold water on the Jobsite?
- Make natural and healthy iced chocolate with Cocoa powder.
- Extract flavors from your favorite tea and mix them with ice.
- Mix ice water with powdered spices like dried ginger root.
Why make an iced drink with Teas or Cocoa powder?
There are many types of teas you can pick and choose from to add flavor to an otherwise boring cup of water.
Most teas contain a small amount of caffeine for energy and are balanced with L-Theanine, which removes the negative side effects of caffeine. It helps reduce blood pressure from working a lot with your power tools.
Most if not all teas have a range of other health benefits as well.
So do your research and find out what iced tea drink is good for you. Or a hot one if it’s a cold day and your boss won’t let you go home.
Organic cacao powder (My Favorite)
What’s needed?
2 tsp of cocoa powder per 800ml of water and ice.
Benefits of drinking iced cacao
It tastes good, weirdly tastes more like drinking Coke-Cola than chocolate (it’s a different type of nut). Except there is no sugar, and it has the following health benefits.
- Cacao is pretty much just zinc Good for man’s health and the immune system.
- It increases blood flow. And lowers cholesterol levels and blood pressure.
- It helps reduce the risk of diabetes and aids weight loss.
- Reduces stress and improves calmness and well-being.
- Increased mental energy as it has some caffeine.
- It contains anti-aging chemicals also found in grapes.
- 1 bag of Caco will last you months and months, so it’s even cheaper than standard teas.
- All you need now is water.
Ginger tea
Using powdered ginger for making a sugar-free ginger ale is another excellent healthy worksite drink.
The trick is to have it iced cold, so it still tastes good without any sugar and is much more interesting than just water.
Benefits of drinking iced ginger tea
- Good for the heart.
- It helps to strengthen your immune system.
- Can reduce muscle pain and soreness.
- Help treat a cough/ Flu and overcome nausea.
- Good for digestive health.
- It can help warm the body up.
- Reduces appetite and helps with weight loss.
- A bag of ginger powder is pretty affordable and will last a long time.
Iced green tea
Green tea is known as a superfood for health and can be made both Cold as it can be made hot.
Heating green tea to boiling point kills a bunch of what is inside and can burn the flavor.
Most advanced green tea advocates only heat the water to 80 degrees (You can get unique kettles for this).
Keep this in mind also for dissolving the flavor into ICE tea and for all teas.
Making ice green tea yourself is much better than any premade green tea you can buy.
First, make it yourself, and you will taste what I mean. But I find if you regularly drink green tea, you start to become sick of it. That is why you should also try the other ideas above.
Benefits of drinking iced green tea
- Increases burning of fat.
- Caffeine content is high and is balanced with L-Themine.
- Can improve brain function.
- It is known to clean your body from toxins.
Iced jasmine tea
Jasmine tastes better than green tea, in my opinion, if green tea is too bitter for you. Jasmine tea is more smooth and refreshing when made as an ICE tea compared to ICE green tea. With many of the same benefits.
Benefits of drinking iced jasmine tea
- Boosts brain function
- Good for heart health
- Contains many antioxidants
- Aids in weight loss.
Iced rosella hibiscus tea
Popular with girls, Rosella can help with Mensual pain. But if you want something that tastes sweeter but isn’t actually sugar this is another tea flavor idea with some health benefits.
Benefits of drinking Rosella tea
- Weight loss.
- An antidepressant.
- Clean you from toxins.
- Helps with colds and flues.
- Contains vitamins.
- It helps strengthen your immune system.
How to make an iced tea for builders?
To prepare:
Half-full many bottles of water in your job site freezer so that you always have bottles that are 50% ICE ready to go.
- Full a water bottle that is 50% ICE with water to reach 80%.
- Mix the tea or 2 teaspoons of powdered tea in a small cup of hot water to dissolve it.
- Mix the tea or dissolved powder with the water in the bottle.
- Shake the bottle so that ice separates from the sides, and the liquid surrounds it; the hot water will melt the ice a bit.
- Ready to drink, sip slowly so that you don’t drink all the flavor before the ice melts.
Should you add sugar?
Even if you add 1 or half a teaspoon of sugar, it would be insignificant compared to any purchased premade drinks that have 10-20tsp. If you are doing intimated fasting, though, it would break the fast.
I find no noticeable benefit when adding sugar. It doesn’t need it when you are used to drinking sugarless drinks.
You will start adjusting and becoming sensitive to the natural sweetness.
After drinking this for 6+ months with no sugar and trying Coke-Cola for the first time in a long time, I found I couldn’t drink it. It tasted bad in comparison. It’s so weird, though, because this drink is such a simple thing and so much better!
Other flavors?
When you need to drink something different between or during your meals on the building site, you can follow this same procedure above for making an iced drink, using any flavor from any tea bags or powder that you find.
Be creative. Green tea isn’t the only option, as it doesn’t taste the best either, you can mix flavors as well.
Make a fruit smoothie!
If you need more energy, a smoothie is another way to go about a healthy drink choice if it’s only 1 per day. It will contain some sugar buts its natural sugar from the fruits rather than processed sugar. And it will also be full of vitamins and antioxidants.
Blueberry and banana smoothies are the best. You can also add spinach or kale if you want to make it more healthy.
Conclusion
Are you refreshed, hydrated and is your mind clear? This is the secret. Homemade iced tea. Super simple yet the best.
Whatever you choose, a chocolate flavor, ginger, or Jasmin tea, or if you have what it takes to consume two 800ml of green tea, you will be rocking your way with your favorite Jobsite tunes well before the weekend.
